Public Works Supervisor

DEPARTMENT: Public Works Maintenance

LOCATION: Wilton, ND

DEADLINE: Letter of Interest is due by 4:00pm on September 16, 2025

 

JOB DESCRIPTIONS: Public Works Supervisor is primarily responsible for the maintenance and repair of the City's water distribution system, storm, wastewater mains, and wastewater lagoon system.  Responsible for the maintenance and repair of the City's streets, landfill, City’s buildings and city grounds.

 

Performance is evaluated through direct observation, review of assigned work or projects, Wilton City Commission, co-workers and compliance with established policies and procedures.

 

EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Class B CDL or able to obtain within 3 months
  2. Ability to pass ND State Health Dept certification, when eligible, for water distribution and water treatment,
  3. Ability to pass ND State Health Dept certification, when eligible, for wastewater distribution and wastewater treatment
  4. Ability to pass any other certifications or licensure required for employment

  1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands tools and operate controls. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and work in confined spaces.
  2. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds or more.

WATER DUTIES

  1. Water Tower
    1. Check twice daily, every day of the year
    2. Check electric heater in building twice daily Oct. – April
    3. Repair or replace electric circulating pump as needed
  2. Residential & Commercial water meters
    1. Read meters every month
    2. Repair or replace as needed
  3. Water Mains
    1. Check for leaks or breaks daily
    2. Flush water lines once yearly May – Oct., keep logbook
    3. Keep logbook of all water main breaks
  4. Water Hydrants
    1. Flush one yearly May – Oct., keep logbook
    2. Painting and repair as needed

WASTE WATER DUTIES

  1. Sewer Mains
    1. Check and clean, or sewer jet, as needed, keep log book
  2. Lagoons
    1. Cut grass when needed on the banks
    2. Transfer sewage from Cell #1 to Cell #2 to Cell #3 as needed
    3. Discharge Cell #2 and #3 when ND State Health Department tests meet approval
    4. Record starting and ending date for discharge – keep log book
  3. Storm Sewer
    1. Clean as needed
    2. Keep inlets and outlets open

STREET DUTIES

  1. Streets
    1. Crack seal every year, preferable in Apr – May
    2. Sweep streets as needed– Street Sweeper
    3. Remove snow as needed – Front End Loader, Snow Blower
    4. Sand icy intersections as needed– Sander
    5. Repair asphalt where needed or report any major repairs needed to the Commission
    6. Replace sand and salt piles as needed
  2. Street Signs
    1. Repair or replace as needed

CITY PROPERTY:

  1. Parks & City Property
    1. Cut grass as needed
    2. Trim or remove trees as needed
    3. Weed control
    4. Clean as needed
  2. City Shop, Cold Storage Area and City Buildings
    1. Mow grass as needed
    2. Weed control
    3. Maintain yard area
    4. Maintain and Clean buildings
  3. Public rights-of-way, ditches, and trees
    1. Mow and maintain as needed
    2. Weed control

CITY EQUIPMENT

  1. Front End Loader, Street Sweeper, Snow Blower, Tractors, Mowers, Pumps, Pick-ups, Truck
    1. Repair as needed
    2. Service as needed – oil changes etc. – keep logbook
    3. Wash and clean as needed
    4. Change or re-build cutting edges on Loader as needed
    5. Change brooms on Sweeper as needed
    6. Keep logbooks of all hours: equipment repairs, water breaks, sewer jetting, hydrant flushing

Any other duties as requested by the City Commission or as required by the ND State Health Department.
